Aiton aiming for Challenge Cup glory

Leeds Rhinos hooker Paul Aiton would love to win the Tetley’s Challenge Cup in his first year at the club but knows his former Wakefield Trinity Wildcats team-mates will do their all to deny his ambtions when the two clubs meet at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Sunday (2.00pm)

Aiton joined the Rhinos after two successful seasons at Wakefield and is looking forward to facing some old friends on Sunday afternoon.

“I’d love to win the Tetley’s Challenge Cup especially in my first season with the club, but  we have a lot of good teams standing in our way,” said Aiton. “We’re feeling confident going into the game but I know what it’s like to play Leeds and teams lift their game so we certainly won’t be underestimating Wakefield by any means.

“I’m really enjoying being at Leeds, it’s a great club, the best I’ve been at. I’ve settled in and get on really well with the lads.

“I know the Wakefield players well from my time there and I’m sure there will plenty of banter flying around during the days before the game. You forget about that during the game and then when the final whistle blows you’re back to being friends and having a laugh with each other.”

The Papua New Guinea international is excited about the West Yorkshire derby and knows that the fans will create an impressive atmosphere to spur the Rhinos on.

“The Leeds fans are a huge support to us, when you are tired and you hear them chanting it just gives you that extra push that you need, it would be great to get to the next round not only for the team, but the for the fans as well,” he said.
