AFL-bound Hunt demands rep payments

AFL-bound Karmichael Hunt has demanded $60,000 in withheld representative payments from the Australian and Queensland Rugby Leagues.

As strife swirls around the Brisbane Broncos, Rugby League Week reports that the Test fullback reckons the loyalty fund intended to discourage rep’ stars from quitting the game does not apply to him.

Hunt and his agent David Riolo are challenging the validity of a rule that half of his earnings from Tests and Origins are to be kept from them because he has gone to a rival code.

“I don’t want to say much because it is part of the intimacies of the deal but I believe there is a case that this is a unique situation,’’ Riolo tells RLW.

“Karmichael is completely changing professions rather than just going to a competing code and there is an argument that he should receive his full representative payments.

“It is something we have considered and are looking into.’’
