Academy players banned for punching

Three academy players have been suspended for punching during the recent play-off match between Wigan and Leeds.

Warriors winger Joe Burgess and full-back Lewis Tierney were suspended for three and two matches respectively, and both fined £25, for their involvement, while forward Ryan Sutton was fined £25 but avoided suspension. Team-mate Oliver Gildart also avoided suspension after submitting an Early Guilty Plea.

The third suspended player was Leeds’ Elliott Minchella, who received a one-match ban and a £25 fine.

Leeds players George Milton (Grade A striking with the hand) and Alex Foster (Grade A punching) both submitted EGPs in relation to offences committed in the Wigan v Leeds Academy play-off fixture, and lose the right to use an EGP for 12 months.

Rhinos player Mason Tonks and Adam Hesketh of St Helens both submitted EGPs in relation to Grade A punching offences committed in the 79thminute of their Academy play-off game on Friday September 20.
