Wigan coach offers update on Abbas Miski future as ‘resolution’ promised

Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet insists the club will reach a ‘resolution’ over Abbas Miski’s contract soon, admitting he’s surprised the winger hasn’t landed a loan move.

Miski has scored 63 tries in 78 appearances across all competitions for Wigan since joining them from London Broncos ahead of the 2022 campaign.

2023 saw the Penrith-born Lebanon international finish as Super League’s joint top-try scorer as the Warriors won the first of back-to-back Super League Grand Finals.

Last season’s appearance at Old Trafford against Hull KR has, as it stands, proven to be the veteran’s last appearance for the Cherry and Whites though.

After an injury-hit campaign last time out, Wigan opted not to include Miski on their salary cap for this season. Having now returned to full fitness, he has only played for the reserves so far in 2026.

‘I was expecting a club to put their hand up and take Abbas on loan, but that’s not happened’

Miski was plagued throughout 2025 by a knee issue and then tore his hamstring in the Grand Final defeat to KR.

Head coach Peet revealed earlier this season that Wigan were open to allowing him to head out on loan, but no suitable offer has come in as yet.

Ahead of his side’s trip to Bradford Bulls this weekend, Peet explained: “As I’ve said before, Abbas won’t play in the first-team for us this year because of the salary cap situation.

“He’s training hard and he’s fit, I thought he was excellent in a tough reserves game for us at the weekend.

“I was expecting a club to put their hand up and take Abbas on loan, but that’s not happened, so he’ll just keep doing what he’s doing and have himself be the best prepared he can be.

“We’ll decide week-to-week whether he plays reserves or not.

“I suppose (a loan deal has to be) the right offer from the right club, for all the parties.”

Representing Lebanon on the international stage via his heritage, Miski has scored 13 tries in as many appearances for the Middle Eastern nation, starring in each of the last two editions of the Rugby League World Cup.

Peet continued: “If he has (been frustrated), he’s managed it really well. He’s remained a big part of the group and he’s training on the field all the time.

“His body’s not been conditioned to play all year. Up to May, it was about him recovering from his injury and getting himself the best he can be condition wise to play and to string games together.

“Now he’s at that point, he’s adding to training all the time.”

Miski scored two tries in six NRL appearances for Manly Sea Eagles at the start of his professional career before making the move to the UK as he joined London ahead of the 2021 season.

With a sole loan appearance included for Newcastle Thunder in 2022, he has now scored 82 tries in 101 appearances at club level in the British game.

On the 31-year-old’s future, Warriors boss Peet said: “He’s contracted to the club.

“I’ve just had a good chat with him then and conversations remain very open.

“It’ll be about coming to a resolution that’s best for the club and for Abbas.

“I’m sure one way or another we’ll have it sorted out towards the end of the season.”
