Powell: That was the best performance yet

When asked about how impressive the victory away to the Warriors was, Castleford head coach Daryl Powell admitted it was the best he had seen so far in 2017.

The Tigers secured their seventh win from eight games to move two points clear at the top of the table, with a 27-10 victory against Wigan at the DW Stadium on Thrsday.

“I think tonight was probably our best win of the season just for sheer guts and determination,” he said.

“That gives another edge, another confidence and another bit of belief that we can be there at the end.

“If we keep defending like that then teams find us so hard to break down.”

Powell was pleased with the resolve his side showed after making a few errors early on during the game.

“At the start we put ourselves under a bit of pressure and made three errors right at the start and that hurt us,” he added.

“We had to dig our way out of that which I thought we did admirably.

“We defended our line really well on the back of those and then we found a way to score points.”

Powell also explained how it was clear his team had worked on the areas which had let them down during their only defeat of the season against Salford.

“The pleasing thing was that you can see we’ve learned from the Salford defeat,” he continued.

“Teams come and rattle us a little bit and we still maintained our composure.

“The tough edge we’ve got as a defensive team is just growing all the time.”
