Heywood Road

Description –

Heywood Road is a stadium in Sale, Greater Manchester. It is currently the home of rugby league side, Swinton Lions, and semi-professional rugby union side, Sale FC. It was previously the home ground of Aviva Premiership side, Sale Sharks, up until 2003.

The stadium has a capacity of 3,387, after it was reduced from 5,300 in 2017 for safety reasons. It is situated 11 miles from Swinton Town Centre.

Around the ground –

There are several pubs and restaurants within close proximity to the stadium. Moorfield, Little B and the Brooklands Tap are all within walking distance of the venue, with all serving a range of hot and cold food.

If you are driving to the area, The Lowry and Intu Trafford Centre are just a few miles away, while the Salford Museum & Art Gallery is also in relatively close proximity to the stadium.

Getting there –

By car: The ground is easily accessed from the M60 motorway (from Swinton join the M60 at Worsley roundabout). Leave the M60 at the Stretford and Sale exit, signposted A56 Sale and Altrincham. Turn right onto the A56, and after 1.5 miles turn left onto A6144 Marsland Road. Continue in a straight line until you see Brooklands metro station, and Heywood Road is another 500 yards further on to the right.

There is adequate street parking around the ground, but those who are driving cannot proceed down Heywood Road without a car parking pass.

By bus/metro: The ground is best approached by Metrolink on the Manchester to Altrincham line. To access the Metrolink system from Swinton, the quickest method is to take the V1 or V2 bus along the East Lancashire Road (A580) into Manchester – alighting at St Peter’s Square Metro Station. Catch any tram with the destination shown as Altrincham and get off at Brooklands Station. Exit the station and walk up the steps, then turn right along Marsland Road. Heywood Road is 500 yards up on the right-hand side.
