Ground Description:

After 108 years at Wilderspool, Warrington made their one and a half mile journey across the town centre to the old Tetley Walker Brewery site on Winwick Road. The new purpose built Halliwell Jones stadium was to share the land with a Tesco superstore.

Saturday the 21st of February 2004 saw the grand opening of the new venue, as a sell out crowd of 14,206 watched Warrington run out victors against Wakefield in round one of the Super League season. Since that game, due to safety issues, the stadium has had a reduced capacity if 13,024. The stadium consists of 4 modern stands. 2 are fitted with seats and the remaining pair are terraced. Before the Leigh Sporting Village was completed, it was the only modern rugby league stadium to feature both seating and terracing.

Away fans usually occupy the West terracing, although the East stand seating is increasingly used for away fans during friendly games. There is a limited number of seats allocated to away fans in the North stand for each fixture, although it is always recommended that you buy your ticket for these seats in advance. The South stand is the home “popular side”, which is terraced. The East stand is reserved as the family stand for regular season games, as well as being home to the hospitality area. The North stand is also seated, with the clubs corporate boxes and seating within the stand.

The stadium is situated on the A49, just outside the town centre, adjacent to the Tesco superstore.

From the South:

Exit the M6 at Junction 21 and take the A57 towards Warrington. At the Cockhedge roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A49 (Lythgoes Lane). The stadium is a few hundred yards further on.

From the North:

Exit the M6 at Junction 21a and join the westbound M62 (Liverpool), exit the M62 at Junction 9 joining the A49 towards Warrington. Follow this road over the next 2 roundabouts and the stadium is on the right directly after Tesco. Car parking is available in various places along the A49, with regular bus services serving the stadium.

From the East and West:

Leave the M62 at Junction 9 and follow directions as above.

***Be sure if you are coming from the East, to exit the M60 at Junction 12 and rejoin the M62***
