If Sky own the rights to televise Championship rugby, why do they not show a Championship match on a Thursday night?

It will give Championship teams the exposure they need.

Plus it will take the pressure off Super League teams playing on a Thursday night with the short turnaround.

For me, I think the viewing figures will go up on a Thursday night. But I’m just a fan, what do I know.

Editor’s Comment: It’s astounding that 10 years ago, we had a live Championship game every week and for the past few years we’ve had nothing. It really doesn’t make any sense to have the rights and not use them, and it’s also naive on the RFL’s part that it wasn’t mandatory as part of selling the rights. There’ll likely be changes in 2021, but what a boost it would give to the Championship and the game as a whole to show a live game every week – be it a Thursday night, a Saturday or even a Sunday evening. I don’t think there’s any rugby league fan who wouldn’t love to see this happen, especially given the nature of the Championship this season which includes Toronto and Toulouse, Widnes and Bradford.
