Anthony Gelling explains reasoning for not being in Widnes

Anthony Gelling says the reason for not being in Widnes is because of a visa complication for his family.

Back in July, it was announced that the Cook Islands international was set to join the Vikings from New Zealand Warriors on a two-year deal from 2019.

But it has been revealed that he has been training with Catalans Dragons recently and is set for a move to Perpignan.

Gelling commented: “Unfortunately my reason for not being in Widnes isn’t as scandalous and exciting as people might be hoping.

“It’s simply a visa complication for my family (partner & kids). They are not eligible for residency in the UK.

“It’s nobody’s fault, it’s just one of those things.”

Widnes have released statement on the situation and insist that they are expecting him to arrive for pre-season training.

The Vikings are also seeking legal advice on the matter and will be making no further comment at this time.
