Hodgson: I will be fit to face England

Exiles captain Brett Hodgson insists he will play in the match against England despite leaving the field last week with a hamstring injury.

Hodgson was helped off the field in Warrington’s win over Leeds on Friday, but says he will be raring to go for the Exiles when they take on England on Saturday.

He said: “The injury is progressing. I will build progressively in training day by day, and I’m doing a lot of work with the physio.

“Its one of those injuries where it takes a couple of days to heal, and we still have time before the match so I’m reasonably confident of playing in the game.

“The hamstring in general is one of those things you can’t rush back. If I’m not 100% fit I will not be going out there just to come off after five minutes.

“I’ll be smart with it. I’m desperate to play, but at the same time if it’s not right then I’ll have to pull out.”

Hodgson was part of last year’s Exiles team led by Danny Buderus, who has since returned to the NRL. He insists captaining the Exiles is still a major honour for himself.

He said: “Its something I’m very excited about. When Daniel rang me and asked me a couple of months back if I was willing to do it, it didn’t take a lot of thought.

“I loved being part of this camp last year, and the fact we got the win made it more special so hopefully we’ll get something this year.”
