Eden ready to entertain to succeed at Castleford

Castleford utility back Greg Eden is determined to use his hardwon NRL experience to help the Tigers improve on last season's fifth place in Super League.

Eden has returned from Brisbane Broncos, and is set to use his time at the club to prove some critics wrong, and fulfill his potential as a player.

"I don't mind critics," he told Love Rugby League.

"Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Obviously, I'm going to try my hardest to prove them wrong, and have a good year with Cas.

"To play well with this team we've got and hopefully finish quite high in the table.

"The squad's a little bit better, so if we don't finish higher than fifth, we're not doing something right.

"Playing out in the NRL is obviously a big task, and I feel like I've improved to be able to do that.

"Hopefully I'll be a better player for it in Super League."

"Full back is my main position, so if I can fight for that then I'm going to do it," he said.

"But I'm happy to play on the wing as well.

"I have played a little bit at centre, but not as much as at full back and wing."

Eden has played on the wing so far in Castleford's friendly outings, but his main position is full back.

His ability to fill in along the backline will stand him in good stead, he hopes, however, particulary with Zak Hardaker to compete with at full back.

Competition for places is now fierce at the Tigers, which Eden feels will work to the benefit of the team.

"It's exciting and keeps us all on our toes," he said.

"If one of us isn't playing well, we can get replaced, simple as that.

"Obviously, somebody is going to miss out, so we all need to keep fighting hard in preseason, and impress in these friendly games."

Eden feels that it is his ability to add excitement in attack, whatever his position, that can add something to Castleford's 2017 campaign.

"A little bit of flair in attack, scoring tries and creating tries as well, if I'm playing at full back," he explained.

"I'd like to think I can create a few things out on the edge.

"If I'm playing on the wing, then I can finish some good tries off.

"With the way Cas play, playing on the wing means you can score a lot of tries."
