Mick Potter eyes Wests Tigers job

Mick Potter wants the head coach job at Wests Tigers, according to the Australian press.

Potter, who was this week named Super League coach of the year, turned down the offer of a new deal at Bradford to return Down Under, where he is hoping to succeed Tim Sheens.

He told the Sydney Morning Herald: "If I am asked I would certainly go and talk to the people at Wests Tigers.

"They play a good brand of footy and it would be a good opportunity. There is no point throwing your hat in the ring if you are not asked because jobs aren't like that in rugby league, I don't think. But if they wanted to talk to me I would be happy to do so."

The 49-year-old has spent the past six years in Super League, spending two years apiece at Catalan, St Helens and Bradford.

He was also named Super League Coach of the Year in 2008, after leading the Dragons to a third placed finish, just 12 months after guiding them to the Challenge Cup final.

As a player, Potter made more than 200 appearances for Canterbury, St George and Western Reds, and also played State of Origin for New South Wales.
